Not Common Trips #3

Nisyros, Greece

I mean, Greece during Summer is a gem. If you make a good research on which island you want to go based on your preferences then you are fine! So, last summer, me and my friends picked Nisyros. Not crowdy, Nice beaches, nice food and this amazing summer Greek vibe in the air which makes relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape. I can write a whole book about where to go in Greece based on your preferences, but let’s keep it simple here. An original island, not so touristic with a great landscape and food. And of course nice beaches, I mean you go mostly for this.

So,How to go

Well there are a lot of options.

  • 8+ hours boat trip from Athens ( If you like being a pirate then this is your option )
  • You can buy airplane tickets to Rhodes or Kos ( 2 nearest big Islands from Nisyros) and then you can take a 1-2 hour boat trip.

Other than the Greek Airports, a lot more have direct flights to Rhodes or Kos, so you can skip Athens or Thessaloniki if you like.

Important Tip: Nisyros is all about simplicity and authenticity. Don’t expect luxury resorts or intense nightlife, the magic here is the volcano, the silence, and the feeling of being somewhere truly untouched.

Nature

Stefanos Crater
The absolute highlight of the island. You can actually walk inside this active volcanic crater, surrounded by steaming vents and yellow sulfur deposits, it feels almost otherworldly. But it smells like a volcano, so be prepared for that.

Nisyros Volcano
The island itself is shaped by its volcano, and exploring the wider caldera area gives you a real sense of its wild, untouched character. You will find random volcano holes that produce smoke, be careful but you can go close to check.

Villages & Culture

Mandraki
The main port village, full of white houses, narrow alleys, and a relaxed, authentic vibe. It’s perfect for wandering without a plan.

Nikia
A stunning mountain village perched on the edge of the volcanic crater. Its central square offers one of the best views on the island.

Monastery of Panagia Spiliani
Built into a cave above Mandraki, this monastery combines history, religion, and amazing views over the sea.Again, AMAZING VIEW over the sea.

BE AWARE: you can find nice greek fiestas, you have to do your homework and see when those fiestas are going to happen. It is highly recommended guys. You come to Greece, you have to go to a greek panigiri.

As I am saying many times and I will continue to say, Reach me for your own trips, music band recommendations and cooking recipes. We started from a small band suggestion from a fan, but I need more guys.
